1.  What is Kansas Mentors?
Kansas Mentors is a statewide mentoring partnership that connects existing mentoring programs with each other and serves as a resource center for communities wishing to start a program.  Kansas Mentors works to promote the great mentoring opportunities found throughout the state and to find ways to recruit more Kansans to become part of these efforts.

3. What is the Gold Star Program?
The Kansas Mentors Gold Star program was developed in an effort to provide a safe and effective mentoring environment for the youth of Kansas.  This program recognizes mentoring partners across the state who have committed to maintaining a basic set of standards to ensure a quality mentoring experience.  Developed by Kansas Mentors and its Council of Mentors, these standards reflect guidelines set forth in MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership’s Elements of Effective Practice™. 

Gold Star programs are the only programs eligible for state employees to utilize their mentoring time as authorized in Executive Order 08-10.

4. How do I become a Gold Star mentoring program?
Recognition as a Gold Star program communicates to the state your organization’s commitment to quality mentoring. Kansas Mentors encourages all mentoring programs to apply for recognition as a Gold Star program.  To become a Gold Star program, you will need to fill out the
Gold Star Registration Form,Self-Assessment Checklist and send in the requested documentation to Kansas Mentors.

5. What if I have questions or need assistance in becoming a Gold Star Program?
Kansas Mentors offers free technical assistance to programs or communities requesting this service!  Just fill out the
Technical Assistance Form and send to: mentor@ksde.org or fax 785-368-6284.

6. What is Volunteer Kansas?
The vision of Volunteer Kansas is to move Kansas from number seven to number one in volunteerism.
In order to stay on track toward this vision, the organization’s mission is to connect potential volunteers to organizations that need help.
Volunteer Kansas, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Wichita, Kansas and has an extensive and diverse network of individual, corporate and non-profit contacts, making it uniquely suited to take on the visionary goal of making Kansas the number-one volunteer state.
